The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

A personal area of interest for Joseph and Ruth was Muscular Dystrophy, after their son Andrew, passed away at the age of 13 from the debilitating Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy disease. Joseph was so keen to assist in finding a cure for this terrible disease that he became a founder member of the charity known today as the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Over the years the Patrick Trust together with the Patrick family, have donated well over £3million to the charity of which £1m has been allocated to help fund the defining piece of research into Duchenne MD.

The family have been regular members of the board of trustees and various committees of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, and Julian, Joseph and Ruth’s grandson, is keeping this tradition alive today.

The Joseph Patrick Trust

Joseph passed away in the early 1980’s and in recognition of his father’s achievements Alexander founded the Joseph Patrick Memorial Trust, later renamed the Joseph Patrick Trust.

The Joseph Patrick Trust (JPT) is the welfare trust of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and provides part-funding towards the cost of equipment, such as powered wheelchairs, adapted computers and electric beds, for children and adults with muscle disease.

Since it was established in 1986, the JPT has awarded over £5 million to more than 6,000 children and adults with muscle disease.
